The Tree Care Industry Association (TCIA), with funding from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) through the Susan Harwood Training Grant Program, offer free virtual workshops to improve safety and reduce injuries in the tree care profession throughout the year.
These free workshops feature four critical safety topics with courses on Electrical Hazards Awareness Program (EHAP) and the Tree Care Academy Ground Operations and Aerial Lift Safety courses.
Available as half- and full-day live online sessions, these workshops are accessible to workers nationwide—and completely free.

The Susan Harwood Training Grant Program supports nonprofit organizations in providing training to help workers recognize, avoid, and prevent workplace hazards. With this funding, TCIA aims to:
- Improve safety awareness in one of the most hazardous industries.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA standards.
- Provide thorough documentation of training.
“Tree care is one of the most dangerous industries,” says Peter Gerstenberger, TCIA’s Senior Vice President for Industry Expertise. “This training helps workers identify and eliminate hazards, ensuring every worker returns home safely at the end of the day.”
Benefits of Attending
Participants can earn ISA Continuing Education Units (CEUs) and certifications in TCIA’s Certified Treecare Safety Professional (CTSP) program. With a retail value of up to $141.99, these free sessions are an invaluable resource for tree care professionals.
Eligibility
These workshops are open to:
- Full-time or part-time employees of private commercial tree care companies.
- Owners of private tree care companies.
- Unemployed individuals seeking to enter the industry.
Note: Public employees and individuals working for companies with 250 or more employees are not eligible, per OSHA guidelines.
