On Thursday, May 15, Ben Tresselt, President of Arborist Enterprises in Lancaster County, PA, will testify before the House Subcommittee on Workforce Protections on the need for a tree care operations safety standard.

Ben is a longtime member and former Chair of the Tree Care Industry Association (TCIA) Board of Directors. He also serves as TCIA’s voting representative to the ANSI Z133 Committee and chairs the Z133 Task Group on Cranes and Knucklebooms.

Despite the inherently hazardous nature of tree care, OSHA continues to regulate the industry through a patchwork of standards designed for other sectors. This creates regulatory confusion, imposes unnecessary burdens on employers, and ultimately fails to improve safety.

Ben will testify that a properly crafted tree care standard would replace OSHA’s current enforcement approach with a clear, targeted framework tailored to our industry’s unique hazards. It would consolidate and improve upon existing rules, enhancing safety while reducing burdens and confusion.
