The Arborist Safety Training Institute (ASTI), a program of the Tree Care Industry Association Foundation, expands access to high-quality, affordable safety training for tree care professionals.

Tree care is one of the most hazardous industries, and consistent, accessible training is essential to protecting working and strengthening the workforce. ASTI helps meet this need by providing grant funding that supports safety education across the industry.

Through ASTI, companies, organizations, and individuals can apply for funding to participate in or host training in a variety of formats including Self-Paced Tree Care Academy courses, CTSP Scholarships, or In-Person Workshops.

By increasing access to training, ASTI plays a key role in reducing workplace injuries, improving jobsite safety, and supporting long-term workforce development in the tree care industry.

Here are the types of training events ASTI funds:

Applications are reviewed on a bi-weekly basis.

  • Self-Paced Education – Applicants may apply for a variety of Tree Care Academy (TCA) asynchronous, online courses for training themselves or their employees. These courses are best any season, allowing enrollees to complete the courses at their own pace.
  • In-Person Workshops – Applicants for these workshops must find a TCIA Qualified Trainer to host their workshop, and a location to hold it. These in-person workshops must be open to all. ASTI will reimburse instructor honorarium, travel costs, and course enrollments.

  • CTSP Scholarships – TCIA’s Certified Treecare Safety Professional (CTSP) program is the only individual safety credentialing program in the industry designed to address several of the safety challenges that tree care companies face. This scholarship is only available to individuals that are not currently enrolled in the CTSP program.

*At this time, ASTI is not accepting CTSP applications, as all current grant slots have been filled. We encourage you to check back for future opportunities.
