The Path to Qualification

To become eligible for the Trainer Qualification Program, applicants must meet at least one of the following requirements:

  • Hold an active TCIA Certified Treecare Safety Professional (CTSP) certification in good standing; OR
  • Have a minimum of two (2) years of experience as a full-time professional trainer or instructor in arboriculture, safety, or a closely related field.

To receive your TCIA Qualified Trainer designation, you must complete all of the following steps:

  1. Apply & Enroll
    Complete the Enrollment application. Applications are reviewed within three to five business days. Once approved, purchase and enroll in the Trainer Qualification Program.
  2. Complete the Trainer Qualification Course
    Progress through the self-paced online program, which focuses on instructional best practices, adult learning principles, and effective training delivery.
  3. Pass a TCIA Course Exam
    Demonstrate subject matter competency by successfully passing the exam for the TCIA course you intend to teach. This ensures trainers possess both technical expertise and instructional capability.
  4. Complete the Capstone Project & Earn Qualification – Complete the capstone project by answering 21 scenario-based questions outlining how you would conduct a workshop for the course you intend to instruct.Successful completion of all program requirements results in earning the TCIA Qualified Trainer designation.
